April 15, 2006 Thank you everyone!
April 13, 2006 It's moving day! Delmarva Moving & Transport move all the heavy furniture and other "stuff" from the old house in Arnold to the new house in Grasonville in only 7 hours! DaVinci, our cat, is frustrated!
April 09-10, 2006 Some finishing touches are completed; the phone system is installed; the deck flower boxes and benches are almost finished; the mail box is added out front ... and the final county inspection sheet is signed - WE CAN NOW OFFICIALLY MOVE IN!
April 06, 2006 The painters continue the touch-up work; benches and flower boxes are added to the deck; the outdoor shower plumbing is completed ... and the Olson 88 Saab moving van arrives at the front entryway!
April 05, 2006 The painters touch-up the interior walls, ceilings and baseboards throughout the house; the main entrance cloumns are installed.
March 31, 2006 The Lauer Construction deck building team continues to make progress and the step lights are added, most of the interior door knobs are installed, and the master BR balcony railing is finished.
March 28, 2006 The deck work continues and the marble is set into the master BR fireplace.
March 26, 2006 The bank inspector takes final pictures, the deck work continues, more pictures of the beautiful living room & kitchen, and the pool gets a much-needed cleaning.
March 24, 2006 The deck building project resumes, the blue marble for the living room fireplace is installed, and the house cleaning crew arrives.
March 21-22, 2006 The carpenters complete the floor moulding and the walk-in closet shelving system while the plumbers and electricians complete their last tasks prior to ordering the county inspections.
March 20, 2006 The carpet is installed, the blue marble vanity tops are in, the plumbers work in the master bath, the microwave oven is placed into the cabinet space, the electricians add puck lights and electrical supply to the garbage disposals, and the deck work continues outside. Where's spring?
March 17, 2006 The outside deck building continues.
March 17, 2006 The "blue eyes" kitchen granite counter tops are brought in while the remaining marble is installed in the master bath.
March 17, 2006 The hardwood floors are done.
March 15, 2006 Finishing coats are applied to the hardwood floors. The Procell plastic decking lumber arrives.
March 10, 2006 GW Pope Hardwood Floor guys continue work on the first floor.
March 07-09, 2006 More lighting fixtures are installed, including the dining room chandelier and sconces; a Carousel Carpets installer builds up the kitchen floor & glues down the cork tiles; more plumbing fixtures are added; the GW Pope Hardwood Floor crew begins sanding the floors on the first floor; and Verizon brings in phone lines.
March 02, 2006 Templates are made for the granite in the kitchen and the marble for the fireplaces, the plumbers continue to add fixtures, the pantry shelving is installed, and work continues on the deck.
February 28, 2006 The main staircase and kitchen pendant lights are hung; the vinyl fooring is installed in the pantry, laundry, and guest bathrooms; the washer and dryer are hooked up; and the pool is wired.
February 24, 2006 The Cook Electric, Inc. electricians light us up! The ceiling fans, ovens, cooktop, dishdrawers and the blue sink are installed.
February 07-21, 2006 The interior painting is almost complete, the stained glass window is set and glazed, the wooden medallion is set in the maple wood floor under the main stairs, the Cook Electric, Inc. electricians install the recessed lights, the master bath vanities are in, and the outside deck framing begins.
February 01-02, 2006 Clark's Painting Inc. painters finish the walls and ceilings in all the rooms. WARNING: sunglasses are required; the color palette may be bold, but what the hell - we're on vacation!
January 26, 2006 Shane and Paul demonstrate their excellent carpentry skill by building and installing the range hood cabinet in the kitchen.
January 24, 2006 The interior house painting continues and the kitchen cabinet installation begins.
January 21, 2006 The Clark's Painting Inc. painting crew adds the first primer coat of paint throughout the house, the marble fabrication is almost complete for the tub/shower area in the master bath, an access door to the pool pit is built, the front entrance columns are placed, and the beadboard trim for the hallways is done. Chris finalizes the custom colors for each room.
January 19, 2006 The painters finish their prep work and start spray painting a primer coat of white paint on all the walls and ceilings. Shane and Paul complete the beadboard and beam ceiling in the living room.
January 13, 2006 The Kamm Corp. plumbers plumb the pipes and equipment for the SwimEx pool.
January 10-13, 2006 The antique stained glass window is placed in the library wall, the painter reviews the room colors, another interior column is added, the mantle for the living room fireplace is built, the stone is added to the front entryway, and the sewer pipes are finished in the crawlspace.
January 10, 2006 In Home Stone Marble & Granite of Annapolis workers continue cutting and polishing the marble for the master bath. The tub top and shower wall are installed in the master bathroom.
January 07, 2006 The craftmen at In Home Stone Marble & Granite of Annapolis cut the marble slab for the master bath tub.
January 03-06, 2006 The interior columns are installed (the trim work continues), the laundry chute is built, the tankless hot water heater work is done and Chris' parents get the grand tour.
December 20, 2005 The kitchen cabinets are un-boxed, the marble and glass tile floors are finished, the master BR fireplace is framed and awaits the marble, the trim continues, including the plinth blocks with a shell design, and the doors are hung for the HVAC enclosure in the garage. Plus ... another great sunset!
December 10-16, 2005 The marble tile floor is installed in the master bath. Beadboard is added to the back hallway while trim board carpentry continues throughout the house. All interior french doors are installed. Light switches and recepticles are wired; we now have light!
December 08, 2005 The Eagle Tile Co. workers continue installing tile on the first floor.
December 07, 2005 The hard wood floor installation and staircases are done. The ceramic tile work crew begin work on the first floor.
November 21-22, 2005 The hard wood floor installation continues on the first floor; the main and back stair railings are constructed on-site.
November 18, 2005 GW Pope Hardwood Floor crew begins installing flooring, beginning with the 2nd floor bedrooms.
November 15-16, 2005 A hole is cut in the crawl space to connect the pool pit, the ceramic tile underlayment is cemented to the subfloor, the trim work continues and the interior doors are delivered and installed.
November 07-08, 2005 The tankless, continuous flow water heaters are installed, the wood flooring is delivered, the geothermal heat pumps are connected and Shane begins the interior molding and trimwork.
November 03, 2005 The silt fences are removed and the final grading, raking, mulching and cleanup around the outside of the house begins. The driveway concrete/paving stones are removed and replaced with gravel.
November 02, 2005 The exterior house painting is completed and rain gutters are fabricated and installed (in one day!).
October 28, 2005 The exterior painting resumes after rain and wind delays. The crawl space is insulated and the garage doors are installed.
October 19, 2005 The drywall taping and spackling is complete.
October 13, 2005 The long anticipated SwimEx pool is delivered and lowered into the pool pit. Great job Shane!
October 13, 2005 The drywall joints are taped and spackled.
October 07-12, 2005 The drywall is cut and hung for the entire house.
October 06, 2005 Icynene insulation is complete and sewer and water lines are brought into the house. The hardwood floor installer visits the site and gives advice. The drywall is delivered.
October 05, 2005 Icynene foam insulation (a superior air barrier) is added to the vaulted ceilings, a propane tank is buried and a trench is dug for sewer and water services.
October 04, 2005 Fiberglass batt insulation is installed in most of the walls of the house and the first coat of paint is applied to the Hardie planks and shingles on the outside of the house.
Sept. 23-30, 2005 The shingle siding is done. Pre-wiring for security, phone, stereo and TV is completed. A propane gas line manifold is added in the crawl space; the master BR fireplace mantel framing and porch ceilings are finished; all holes are filled with spackling paste in the wall and exterior framing; a laundry shoot is framed; and yet another beautiful sunset from the master BR balcony.
Sept. 14-21, 2005 The electrical wiring is completed; the installation of the shingle siding continues. A recent "retiree" cleans up the worksite.
Sept. 11-12, 2005 The geothermal installation is completed while the electrical wiring continues. The plank board siding, including the curved walls, is completed and work on the shingle siding on the upper half of the house starts.
Sept. 07, 2005 A Chesapeake Bay working boat shows up outside the master sitting room while the electrical and HVAC work continues.
Sept. 06, 2005 The Eldorado Stone wall is almost complete and the electrical cable wiring continues throughout the house. The geothermal pump is installed; pipe and duct work connections to the 1st floor heat pump are completed.
Sept. 02, 2005 Mortar is added between the Eldorado Stones on the front wall and the electrical wiring begins. The fireplaces and the geothermal heat pumps are set in place.
August 31, 2005 The Eldorado Stone for the front of the house is cemented onto the front wall and the electricians continue to place recessed light boxes and recepticles throughout the house.
August 22-25, 2005 Block is added to the front of the house for the stone masonry. Rough plumbing and electrical work is on-going. A unique drainage system is completed for the main entrance copper roof. Columns are installed on the the left side and front right porches. Chris cherishes a special moment in the sunroom!
August 16-19, 2005 The construction area is graded and mulched. The light blue primed plank siding installation begins while the copper roof is installed over the main entrance. The rough plumbing and geothermal HVAC work continues and the electrical rough-in begins.
August 10-12, 2005 The SwimEx pool pit is finished, including the drain and sump pump. The rough plumbing work continues and the kitchen designer verifies all measurements in the kitchen area. A cabinet is built to contain the 1st floot HVAC unit.
August 08, 2005 Concrete is poured (again) for the front porch aggregate section and the side porch. The pool pit block work is complete, although it needs touching-up after a heavy overnight rain. More rough plumbing has been completed, including the installation of bath #3 shower/tub and soffit work around the outside of the living room continues.
August 05, 2005 Concrete is poured for the front porch steps and right-side front porch. The block work for the excavated SwimEx pool area begins.
August 04, 2005 A sand-colored dye is added to the concrete and is poured for the front porch aggregate section. River jack is added but, unfortunately, it didn't look good. We'll try another stone. The circle window trim work is added and drip caps are fastened to all the top trim boards.
August 03, 2005 The geothermal closed loops are tied into the in/out manifolds and pipes are brought into the house through the crawl space. The forms for the front porch steps are built.
August 02, 2005 Plumbing rough-in continues. The middle transom windows in the living room are installed and the main staircase is set. Block, sand and gravel are delivered for the pool pit.
July 29, 2005 Work on the main staircase continues, The plumber roughs-in the waste and vent lines & delivers the master bath soaking tub and guest bath tub/shower unit. The stone is selected for the aggregate concrete front porch.
July 28, 2005 The main staircase arrives and installation begins. The pool/spa pit excavation is complete and the concrete footings are poured; the front porch concrete footings are also poured. The glass block and the half circle (master BR sitting) windows are installed. Exterior plank boards arrive on site.
July 26, 2005 Greg Lauer of Lauer Construction makes a surprise on-site visit! The sliding glass french door and back garage door are installed while the glass block window opening is prepared for installation. Plumbing rough-in begins and duradeck is applied to the master BR balcony.
July 21-22, 2005 The geothermal wells are finished while the HVAC duct work and outside trim work is on-going. The french doors for the front and rear entrances and side doors are installed. An additional wall section is added to the master BR balcony. Selections are made for granite counter tops in the kitchen and rock for the outside wall. Shane and Paul of Lauer Construction ride by the circle window in the front of the house!
July 19, 2005 The Atlantic Coastal geothermal well drillers arrive. The HVAC duct work continues - now in the crawl space. The door for the garden shed is installed and the outside trim and soffit work goes on. The revised roof over the main entrance is complete and looks great!.
July 14, 2005 The middle (equitorial) trim work on the front and side of the house is complete. Jerry Hopp, Annapolis Lighting's senior lighting expert verifies the placement of lights and fans. The 2nd floor stair case steps are protected with construction paper and plywood. The HVAC duct work is laid out in the attic - and Chris relaxes in the master sitting room.
July 06-12, 2005 Window trim work continues on the front and sides of the house. The attic and back stairs are set in place. The glass block window for the master shower is delivered and the front porch roof work begins. The HVAC crew set up a fabrication shop in the garage for all the duct work. A crescent moon shows up in a 7/9 sunset!
July 05, 2005 Window trim work begins on the front of the house. The GroundLoop geothermal HVAC work crew arrives, takes measurements and determines the placement for the supply and return ducts.
July 03, 2005 And now for something completely different ... a sunset view from the master BR balcony!
July 01, 2005 Most of the Marvin windows are in place now and the roofers nail the asphalt shingles to the roof - all in one day! A sailboat meanders by, framed in the center of a master BR window.
June 29, 2005 Trimboard work is almost complete on the front of the house. The Lauer carpenter crew demonstrate the proper installation of windows! Flags are placed in the back yard for the geothermal vertical closed loop well drilling sites.
June 28, 2005 The Marvin windows for the first floor arrive and installation begins. Trimboard work continues and Architect Dick Seggel walks through the house and discusses options for the front.porch roof.
June 27, 2005 First floor interior wall framing is complete. Adding the trimboards to the exterior of the house begins and all window and door openings are prepared for installation. The Marvin windows and doors are scheduled for delivery tomorrow!
June 24, 2005 Interior wall framing on the second floor is complete and interior wall framing on the first floor begins with the music room. Azek Trimboards are delivered. Todd's office view is improved!
June 22, 2005 Tar paper was added to the main roof and the attic space is now complete. Side walls for the master BR balcony are constructed. The roof over the living room is almost finished and work on the side porch roof is close to completion.
June 20, 2005 Finishing touches are added in the attic space. The framing crew builds the floor for the master BR balcony. Check out Richard Seggel's creative roofline as viewed from the right side of the house!
June 18, 2005 The main roof is almost complete! Roof work continues on the living room and the back of the house. Say "goodbye" to that wonderful view of the Bay through the attic rafters.
June 16, 2005 Roof work continues. Trusses over the master BR/sitting are built and a roof over the living room begins. A rapidly approaching storm over the Bay ends the Olson Residence Chronicles for the day!
June 15, 2005 Roof work continues. Exercise room trusses built. Main staircase gable now has a plywood roof!
June 14, 2005 Roof work continues. More hip, valley and common rafters secure the ridges.The entire crew works as one to build the truss over the main staircase!
June 13, 2005 Roof construction begins. Rafters are cut and pulled up to the 3rd deck. Braces for exterior walls on first floor are added. Unbelievable view from the attic level!
June 11, 2005 While we were away on a business trip, the second floor framing for the front of the house was completed, the interior support wall framing for second floor was completed, temporary stairs to the second floor was added, and the attic floor was installed. Lumber arrives for on-site construction of the roof trusses.

June 01, 2005 Back and side wall framing finished on second floor. Framing for the front wall begins with the storage room and bedroom #2. After walls are framed, Typar housewrap is stapled to the outside of the finished walls. Nice view of the Bay from the front entryway!
May 28, 2005 Second floor beams and joists placed and secured. Second floor decking completed. What a view!
May 26, 2005 Framing for the curved wall entryway is almost complete. Inside wall frame built between kitchen/pantry/laundry rooms and dining/sitting rooms. Second floor steel beams are secured and joists are built, hoisted, and placed on beams and walls.
May 25, 2005 Outside wall framing is completed for garage and remaining part of the living room. Work continues on the curved walls. Three steel beams for second floor are placed. Second floor deck lumber and lumber for joists delivered.
May 22, 2005 Outside wall framing is completed for the music room, library, most of the living room, and framing for the curved walls for the main entryway and staircase started.
May 19, 2005 First floor framing continues for the front side of the house. The entire wall for the music room and library is built and laid out on the 1st floor deck. A visiting swan decides to swim by.
May 18, 2005 The photographer has to buy a new camera! First floor framing begins with the exercise room and the wall facing the garage.
May 17, 2005 Completed 1st floor decking. Delivery of the first shipment of framing lumber arrives.
May 16, 2005 Poured cement in crawl space and shed. Precisely positioned steel beams and shimmed, added sill plates to beams, anchored power joists to sill plates. Began building 1st floor decking. Photos by Duane Dickson, Lauer Construction. Nice sunset!
May 13, 2005 Anchored sill plates to top of foundation walls. Added gravel to the rest of the crawl space and leveled out. Prepared garage, garden shed and section of the crawl space for pouring of concrete floor. Power joists for floor framing delivered. Nice riprap revetment!
May 11, 2005 Graded & seeded entire area, Mulched around the outside of the foundation.
May 10, 2005 Steel beams placed, flexible drain pipe placement completed, crawl space gravel added, outside wall backfill completed and surrounding area graded.
May 09, 2005 Painting foundation sealant on blocks that are below grade and covering with plastic sheeting. Laying down flexible drain pipe and adding gravel over the pipe. Backfilling outside walls with excavated dirt.

April 29, 2005 Lauer's classy "The Olson Residence" sign arrives. Block, sand, and concrete mix delivered.
April 28, 2005 Excavation of the crawlspace completed.
April 27, 2005 Pouring concrete footers using concrete pump truck. Concrete leveled out.
April 26, 2005 Trenches completed. Concrete reinforcement rods laid throughout trenches. Footing permit approved.
April 25, 2005 Trenches being dug for foundation and footings.
April 22, 2005 The work begins - FINALLY! Culvert pipe placed under driveway, rock placed for driveway, protection fence placed around sycamore trees, silt fences secured, and stakes & flags outline perimeter of house.
